If you’re looking for cheap hotels in Victoria BC, you probably think you'll need to consider going outside of the immediate downtown area. And you may. But it also depends on your definition of “cheap” and of course the season. But there are a few points to consider before we get to our list of cheap hotels in Victoria.

If you stay outside of walking distance to downtown, you’ll need to use some sort of transport. Public transit is an inexpensive, friendly and safe option. And we even have double-decker buses as part of our regular fleet which is a real treat if you’ve never been on one. Current fares are $5 per person over the age of 13 and for each paying customer, you can bring up to four children 12 years and under on board for free. So, if you’re a young family, this can be an inexpensive option but you will still want to add it in to your overall costs.

The other thing to think about is that so many of our attractions are right downtown so after a day of walking around checking out some great sights, do you want to hop on a bus to get to your hotel?
A couple more considerations are whether you need parking, how important amenities are and the availability of Wi-Fi.
When my family visited out here years ago before moving, we opted for a cheaper motel just outside of downtown and we were happy with our choice. Unfortunately, it has since been turned into rental units so I won’t be recommending that one but I know there are a few options you may like.
In my research, I compared prices and features at a number of hotels and inns across the city, based on two adults/one room for 4 different dates from June through September. Your actual price will depend on the number of people in your party and your booking dates.
This is easily the most inexpensive option with the greatest number of features.
Located in Langford, this location is ideal if you are in town for the women’s sevens rugby tournament, mountain biking at Bear Mountain or don’t mind a 20-minute bus ride into Victoria.
This 2018 purpose-built building promotes itself as a condo-hotel. Each suite has a kitchen, outdoor balcony and washer/dryer. Free parking and Wi-Fi are included.
Summer rates ranged between $129 and $139 per night. What I like about Solo Suites is the amenities and the fact it is a brand-new build.
This was possibly the most surprising finding this gem on the doorstep of downtown. This little inn is ideally located in the heart of James Bay which is the neighbourhood bordering the downtown core. It is an easy 10-minute walk to the Inner Harbour where many of our most iconic attractions await. Priced between $139 and $159 per night for summer dates, it is important to note that is a fairly small room with a double bed. But you were looking for cheap hotels, right? Free parking and Wi-Fi included. What I like about this is the location.
UPDATE: In June 2020, the Province of British Columbia purchased this Inn to house some of our homeless population.
For over 60 years, Paul’s has been welcoming guests to beautiful Victoria BC. You’ll be at the Save-On Foods centre for a concert or Victoria Royals hockey game or in Chinatown with just a 5-minute walk and down at the Inner Harbour in just 10. Summer rates range from $149 to $159 with free parking and Wi-Fi included. What I like about this is the convenient location and the 1960’s era diner on site.
Situated across from the Gorge Waterway and just minutes from the Galloping Goose trail sits one of two HoJo’s in Victoria.
You can walk downtown following the Goose – which is a network of walking and biking paths that stretch from Sidney to Sooke - in about 20 minutes, board a water taxi from the Selkirk Landing harbour ferry stop or hop on a city bus.
At Howard Johnson you’ll enjoy free Wi-Fi, parking and breakfast. And after a day of adventure, enjoy a soak in the indoor pool. Summer rates range from $165 to $185 nightly. What I like about this is the pool and breakfast being included.
